How has the Norwegian Armed Forces adopted and implemented the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security? This webinar will discuss the progress and challenges related to the implementation domestically as well as Norway’s efforts abroad through UN Missions and NATO operations.
The panel for this webinar will consist of:
Major General and Practitioner in Residence at PRIO, Kristin Lund. Major General Lund is the first female Force Commander in UN history and was in October 2017 appointed Head of Mission/Chief of staff of the United Nations Truce supervision Organization. She has extensive experience from international peace operations, and has been a UNWOMEN Champion since 2017. In 2009, she became the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Major General in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
Ole Magnus Totland is a Senior Advisor in the Norwegian Ministry of Defense. He was previously an advisor in the gender project at the Norwegian Defense University College, and contributed to the Norwegian textbook “Gender i Forsvaret: fra teori til praksis”. His master thesis from 2009 was an anthropological study of soldiers in the Norwegian Telemark battalion, and their relation to body, gender and identity.

Chair: Johanne Jensen Skeie is the treasurer for YATA Oslo, and a Research Fellow at the Norwegian Institute of Defense Studies. She wrote her master’s thesis on the Norwegian Armed Forces’ implementation of UNSCR 1325, and is currently involved in a project on “Net Assessment”, focusing on artificial intelligence.
This event is part of the “Building on 20 Years of Women, Peace and Security” Norwegian anniversary week organised from the 9th to the 13th of November. The 20th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 is marked by an official high-level commemoration, as well as webinars held by civil society organisations and research institutions. The aim of these webinars is to discuss the current challenges facing the global Women Peace and Security agenda, and to highlight the fundamental role of civil society organisations in creating and moving the agenda forward.
This webinar series have been organised by the PRIO Gender, Peace and Security Centre and FORUM1325, represented by the following member organisations; Care Norway, FOKUS – Forum for Women and Development, Mental Health and Human Rights Info, ACT/ Norwegian Church Aid, Norwegian Human Rights Fund and Youth Atlantic Treaty Association’s Oslo chapter.
