NORDIC SECURITY CONFERENCE

The Nordic Security Conference – NorSec – is YATA Norway’s annual flagship event. The conference brings students, cadets, young professionals, academics and experts from all over Europe and beyond together for two days in Oslo to learn and exchange ideas about key issues of foreign, defence and security policy. NorSec aims to be a platform for discussion, learning, and networking among students and young professionals across a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. It is managed each year by the National Executive Board of YATA Norway.

NorSec 2022 will be held from April 2nd-3rd 2022. This is our 17th annual NorSec, and the main focus of this year’s conference is the various aspects of hybrid threats and operations. Thoughts and experiences on how civil society has been affected, as well as how hybrid operations affect Norway and other Nordic countries will be of particular relevance.

NorSec 2021 will take place online from March 11th to the 13th. Thursday 11th of March and Friday 12th of March will be short sessions during the evening from 18:00 (CET), while Saturday 13th will be a full conference day from 11:00-16:00 (CET). The event will focus on the security challenges both in the Middle East and Nordic region, ten years after the Arab Spring started.

The theme of Nordic Security Conference 2020 was “Climate Change: New security challenges and implications for the Arctic”.  Un fortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, YATA Norway has decided to cancel the 15th edition of the annual Nordic Security Conference, which was due to take place on March 21st to March 22nd.

What factors are contributing to driving the security developments in the 21st century, who are the key players, and how can established institutions like NATO face this development? How do we understand how the basic structure of global power undercut or reshape current mechanisms of cooperation? These were some of the questions addressed during NorSec 2019.

The theme of NorSec 2018 was «China´s emergence as a superpower and implications for Europe». The rise of a possible superpower in the East will have implications for the rest of the world, by gathering experts to speak on the security challenges, trade and cooperation we dived into which implications China´s rise as a global power could have for Europe.
