YATA Norge skal gjennomføre et informasjonsprosjekt om FNs bærekraftsmål i nordområdene, og du er velkommen til å bli med!
Målet med prosjektet er å lære unge voksne om rollen Norge har som aktør i nordområdene, fortrinnsvis i Barentsregionen. Vi skal produsere informasjonsmateriell som bidrar til økt forståelse hos medlemmer av YATA og øvrige interessenter.
Overordnet tema for prosjektet er samarbeid for å nå utviklings- og bærekraftsmål i Arktis. Spesifikt rettes det mot bærekraftsmål 17 og 11, samarbeid for å nå målene og bærekraftige byer og samfunn. Dette er gjerne særlig relevant i år med tanke på pandemien og uventede stengte grenser i et område hvor det vanligvis er mye aktivitet på tvers av landegrensene.
Prosjektet vil innbefatte en studietur til Kirkenes, Sør-Varanger i perioden 5.- 8. november.
Ettersom studieturen gjennomføres i forbindelse med et større informasjonsprosjekt knyttet til Nordområdene, vil det si at deltakerne får oppgaver tilknyttet dette både før og etter studieturen.
Sosial ulikhet og klimaendringer er tema som er viktig i nordområdene. I Barentsregionen er det regionale samarbeidet på tvers av land naturlig og nødvendig for å nå felles mål. Derfor blir det naturlig å også fokusere på bærekraftsmål 11 som omhandler bærekraftige byer og samfunn. Spesifikt er det interessant å lære mer om de to nabobyene Kirkenes i Sør-Varanger og Nikel på den russiske siden. Norske myndigheter har lenge uttrykt bekymring for industrien og miljøutfordringene i Nikel ettersom luftkvaliteten i Pasvik-dalen påvirker begge sider av grensen. I tillegg er det interessant å lære mer om disse byene med tanke på den svært store kontrasten i sosiale og økonomiske forhold, særlig den korte distansen mellom Kirkenes og Nikel tatt i betraktning.
Det er inntil 6 plasser på prosjektet. Det er en fordel at du er medlem av YATA og har noe forkunnskap eller interesse for tematikken knyttet til prosjektet.

YATA Norway is implementing an information project regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the High North, and you are invited to join!
The goal of the project is to increase the knowledge of young adults regarding Norway’s role as an actor in the High North, particularly in the Barents region. We will do so by producing information material which will increase the understanding of the topic among both the group directly involved in the project, but also among YATA’s members.
The study trip for the project will be in Kirkenes from November 5-8, 2020. As the study trip is a part of an information project regarding the High North, the members will be assigned duties before and after the study trip.
The overarching topic for the project is cooperation for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Arctic. Particularly SDG 17 and 11, revitalization of the global partnership for sustainable development and sustainable cities and communities. These goals might be even more relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and unexpected closure of borders in an area with frequent cross-border activity during normal circumstances.
Social inequality and increased climate change are important topics for the High North. In the Barents region the regional cooperation across countries is natural and necessary to reach common goals. For this reason, it is natural to focus on SDG 11 which regards sustainable cities and communities. Specifically, it is interesting to learn more about the neighboring cities of Kirkenes in Sør-Varanger and Nikel on the Russian side. Norwegian authorities have for some time expressed their concerns on the industry and environmental challenges in Nikel, as the air quality in the Pasvik valley affects both sides of the border. Additionally, it would be interesting to learn more about these two cities considering the vast contrast in social and economic conditions, particularly considering the short distance between Kirkenes and Nikel.
There are maximum 6 spots available for the project. Being a member of YATA and knowledge about the topic are advantages. LNU has provided the financial support for this project.
